Astrology foundations

What are the 12 houses in astrology?

Signs describe how energy is expressed; houses describe where in life that energy is encountered. The twelve houses form a location- and time-specific framework around a natal chart.

Houses are areas of life

The first house begins at the Ascendant and concerns identity and approach. The sequence moves through resources, learning, home, creativity, work, partnership, shared matters, belief, vocation, community, and inner life.

Why house sizes differ

My Astro Read defaults to Placidus, a time-based quadrant system common in modern Western astrology. Its houses are often unequal. At extreme latitudes Placidus can be undefined; a future house-system selector can offer alternatives without changing planetary positions.

Planets, signs, and houses together

A planet names a function, its sign describes style, and its house supplies life context. Venus in Scorpio, for example, says something different in a partnership house than in a career house.
